I was reading this ' Fooled by Randomness' by Nassim Nicholas Taleb , presented to me by Gunen Saab.

He mentioned a subject called ' Ecological Rationality'. And I wrote it down this interesting subject phrase in the white paper and searched the net.

It first showed up, in the first page, this ' slide share.net'. and when I visited this slide share, then I came across this ' clever presentation dot com'.

The ideas put forward within the manifesto aim to examine the impact of the Internet on both markets (consumers) and organizations. In addition, as both consumers and organizations are able to utilize the Internet and Intranets to establish a previously unavailable level of communication both within and between these two groups, the manifesto suggests that the changes that will be required from organizations as they respond to the new marketplace environment.

The manifesto was written in 1999 by Rick Levine, Christopher Locke, Doc Searls, and David Weinberger. A printed publication which elaborated on the manifesto was published in 2000 by Perseus Books (ISBN 0-7382-0431-5) under the same name.

Was reading ' Cosmic Uplink'. A reference was made to one ' Andrew Newberg', which aligned meditation and awakening to brain's biological phenomena. Much like Christopher Calder said in his meditation page, where, scanned brain photo s of monks were published.

Googled. He wrote some books which received mixed response, were dismissed by spiritualists ( for inducing replicable method) and scientists ( for abstracting the phenomena).

He also holds an appointment at the MIT Media Lab where he is the head of the eRationality research group. Although he is a professor of marketing with no training in economics, he is considered to be one of the leading behavioral economists. Currently, Ariely is serving as a Visiting Professor at the Duke University, Fuqua School of Business where he is teaching a course based upon his findings in Predictably Irrational.

Dan Ariely grew up in Israel after birth in New York. He served in the Israeli army and when 18 suffered third-degree burns over 70 percent of his body from an accidental magnesium flare explosion during training.[1]

Ariely recovered and went on to graduate from Tel Aviv University and received a Ph.D. and M.A. in cognitive psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Ph.D. in business from Duke University. Reading ' Karmic Consciousness ' in ET. There was this reference to Dr.Benjamin Libet, who did a path breaking research in decision making and consciousness. Most of our impulsive actions are decided by unconsciously decided, he avers, and take place 10 milli seconds before we are ' aware' of it. He did ground breaking research on ' volitional acts' and ' readiness potential.

Came across " Brainstorming." Here is the method. Use it more in ya training sessions. Here is the process.

Approach
There are four basic rules in brainstorming.[5] These are intended to reduce the social inhibitions that occur in groups and therefore stimulate the generation of new ideas. The expected result is a dynamic synergy that will dramatically increase the creativity of the group.
Focus on quantity: This rule is a means of enhancing divergent production, aiming to facilitate problem solving through the maxim, quantity breeds quality. The assumption is that the greater the number of ideas generated, the greater the chance of producing a radical and effective solution.
No criticism: It is often emphasized that in group brainstorming, criticism should be put 'on hold'. Instead of immediately stating what might be wrong with an idea, the participants focus on extending or adding to it, reserving criticism for a later 'critical stage' of the process. By suspending judgment, one creates a supportive atmosphere where participants feel free to generate unusual ideas.
Unusual ideas are welcome: To get a good and long list of ideas, unusual ideas are welcomed. They may open new ways of thinking and provide better solutions than regular ideas. They can be generated by looking from another perspective or setting aside assumptions.
Combine and improve ideas: Good ideas can be combined to form a single very good idea, as suggested by the slogan "1+1=3". This approach is assumed to lead to better and more complete ideas than merely generating new ideas alone. It is believed to stimulate the building of ideas by a process of association.

I came across this mystic sage, who actually had the guts to ' describe' his mystical experience. Many mystics refrained from that. Their constant refrain was - ' since word is not the thing, the description means, something is always lost in translation'.

I just read this book review about this great author, David Lieberman, profoundly influenced by J.Krishnamurti, who wrote this book, " instant analysis ". Any one who says, JK influenced him - evinces instant interest in me. Visited amazon, and came across his books page, most of them highly rated , which is here.

It has always been very difficult for me to find out whether a person is telling me a truth or a lie. So I always give him a benefit of doubt, which makes me a loser sometimes. There is a book on this subject, review of which is here.

I came across this Vietnamesse Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh, in the amazon review I was reading today in the office, Red Pine's ' Heart Sutra'. There, this reviewer, who wrote a comprehensive review, mentioned the other enlightened Zen masters, Thich Nhat Hanh, Jack Kornfield ( he had interactions with Sage Nisargadatta Maharaj, u remember? ), and Pema Chodron. The reviewer mentioned about this book of his ; ' the Miracle of Mindfulness', which, reminded me of Jon Kabat-Zinn.

How did you happen to read ' Catch 22' ? On Tehelka editor recommendation. They said, during the times of distress, George Fernandez kick backs and subsequent BJP Govt's harrassment, they read ' Catch 22' and ' Animal Farm' ( I still have to read it) and enjoyed and alleviated their stress.

I read it in 2004, and LOl ed a lot and it certainly deserves a 2 nd reading. I will, after ' Good as Gold', which too received a 4.5 star rating in amazon. Here's Joseph Heller interview. The link. As suspected, he had Jewish Antecendents and his father was a truck driver and died when Mr.Heller was only 4 year old !

I was reading this ' Zen for Beginners' and came across this ' Koan' which is very imporant in Zen practice. And very popular Japanese item, like ' Haiku'.

His Scientific Heros : Michael Faraday and Thomas Huxley. Faraday moved a magnet to and fro , with a coil of wire, and connected 2 entire fields of physics ; electricity and magnetism. Huxley is admired for bringing science to ‘ common people ‘ ( to use Huxley’s own phrase ) without dumbing it down !

Modern Scientific Heroes : Norm Geschwind and Francis Crick . Both of whom had sheer fun in doing science than anyone I know !

Best advice he got for doing research : (1) Better to tackle 10 fundamental problems and solve one, instead of taking on 10 trivial problems and solving them all. Nature isn’t conspiring against us by making fundamental problems more difficult.
(2) Don’t become trapped in small cul-de-sacs of specialization because you feel comfortable.

On Bioethical and cultural issues : Consider what has happened to American Indians since cowboys took over their land ! India did have a civilizing influence on all South East Asian countries, like Thailand, Burma, China, Combodia, Indonesia etc, which manifest in their artistic and cultural values. But all these were achieved by peaceful means, by blending Indian and Far Eastern values ; and not by coersive homogenization or Disneyfication.

My comments are intended to set the recordd straight and put the things in perspective , in order to newtralize the Eurocentric bias of Western historians.

But in singing the glory of India, I have no desire to provide ammunition to the ultra right-wing Hindutvas.

On Indian weaknesses : Indians “ knew” the Pythogoras Theoram a millennium before Pythagora, they did not bother to prove it ! To Euclid, and Euclid alone, we owe the concept of proof – of deducing a whole edifice from a set of simple axioms.

Even more amazingly, neither Indians nor Greeks understood the concept of an experiment !! We had to wait for an Italian, Galileo, for that. Until he came along, people simply didn’t understand that the only way to unravel Nature’s secrets is – to vary one thing at a time, and keeing everything else constant. Both Indians and Greeks wer arrogant ; they considered themelves too smart to get their hand dirty. Why do experiments, when you can figure it all out in your head ?
Aristotle relied on “ common sense “ to claim that, heavy objects fall faster to the ground than the light ones. And we had to wait for 2000 years, till Newton came along, for proof.
Indeed, the very notion of an experiment is alien to the human mind, whether Greek, Indian, English or Chinese and for that reason , Galileo is rightly regarded as one of the supreme geniuses of the human race !
The ‘ great man’ theory of history is unfashionable among the left wing social scientists and historians, but I can assure them that, without the likes of Euclid, Panini, Aryabhatta, and Galileo, there would be no modern science !

Where did you hear of ' Naguib Mahfouz' ? In Deccan Chronicle Sunday, when they interviewed one ' Kusum Sawhney ' ( that was the first time I was listening about her too ! ), Indian author who wrote boldly about a taboo subject like ' incest'.

In that interview, she mentioned a number of authors as favs. There, ' naguib mahfouz' occured. By that name, I thought he' s another Wole Soyanka, an African Arab / Muslim Author. And he turned out to be egyptian ! Born in 1911, he is very much alive, at the ripe old age of 96. He won nobel in 1988. Here's his link in Wiki .

Growing up during Japan's brutal occupation, free-spirited Bao Qin chose the man she would marry, a Communist Party official slavishly devoted to the revolution. In 1949, while he drove 1000 miles in a jeep to the southwestern province where they would do Mao's spadework, Bao Qin walked alongside the vehicle, sick and pregnant (she lost the child). Chang, born in 1952, saw her mother put into a detention camp in the Cultural Revolution and later "rehabilitated." Her father was denounced and publicly humiliated; his mind snapped, and he died a broken man in 1975. Working as a "barefoot doctor" with no training, Chang saw the oppressive, inhuman side of communism. She left China in 1978 and is now director of Chinese studies at London University. Vandana Shiva , who ? I came to know about her , for the first time, when I was reading this amazon review, ' Freedom from the Known'.
Learnt, that she 's one of the leading authorities on eco-feminism ( probably a lot more influential than Dr.Vangari Mathai ) and wrote scores of books. Distribution of food supplies and future of water... etc are her favs.

He's a very naughty boy. Though few get to see what goes on behind closed doors, get to see the teacher's dirty laundry. Still the powerful material in this book can serve well. At ultimate, like best medicine, it can help us get beyond leaning on such things, looking to them for models, alchemical formulae; to get beyond dependence, addiction. Won't go into the whole psycho bit. Won't go into this whole scene - the books, tours, Brockwood, the Foundation. Krishnamurti's court. All that was done to protect the kernel of his precious teaching. Lying. Abortion. Was K addicted to opiates of spouting his teaching about not-teaching, caught by delusional convictions like that he didn't NEED to orate as he was able to take a dose of time out from it? Hypocrisy, self-deception, sham. If you want the real essence of what he's trying to get at, supposedly talking about, try Sankara. Or take a doctoral combination like (Laszlo's) Universal Connectivity synthesis with Hog's Wholey Wash (Mitchell) & New Science of Life (Sheldrake). Apply own heart salt, see what emerges - using direct experience as reference - something from your own love and pain, not someone else's insight, abstraction, whatever. Maybe get to chat about it all with apt professor such as John Wren-Lewis. All equivocal advaita. The prof & that hog's wash both priceless on JK-ology. But why not listen to a woman for a change? Like Ann Faraday. Vandana Shiva. Andrew Cohen's mom. Not forgetting Brian's. Or just take J Krishnamurti ACTUALLY seriously for a moment - burn beyond the intellectual, leap trip rise or fall into life's throbbing paradoxical, perchance to implode, to supernova - follow his advice and stop following his advice! LISTEN to (WITH) the birds, the tree, the flower. Our nonduality. It's all there, here - interactive - mutually embedded - overlapping & ongoing.

While he taught and explained the method to work with the mind, he did not know or teach the essential wisdom to create the soul. That is why his students continue in the same problems and same conflicts, and why he ended his days so frustrated and disappointed with humanity...
